Suhana Meharchand
BIOGRAPHY

Daily anchor of CBC Newsworld Today and anchor of the Saturday editions of
Newsworld Today.
Meharchand is former host of the CBC Evening News and former anchor of CBC Television's Saturday Evening News and was a general assignment reporter for the CBC Evening News. Prior to joining CBC Toronto in November of 1993, Meharchand was a general news reporter and weekend anchor for three years at CJOH-TV in Ottawa. From September, 1987 through to July, 1989, viewers may recall Meharchand as host and producer of What's New, CBC-TV's national news and current affairs program for young people.
A graduate of broadcast journalism from Toronto's Ryerson Polytechnical University, Suhana has won several international awards for documentary work, including awards from the Columbus International Film and TV Special and the New York Film and TV Festival.
Meharchand is the recipient of a Paul Harris Fellowship awarded by Rotary International and an Honorary Member of the Canadian Women’s Foundation. Her many community activities are with Performers for Literacy, Gems of Hope, Redwood Shelter for Women and Children, Paraplegic Association of Canada, Sick Children’s Hospital and Princess Margaret Breast Cancer Centre, to name a few.
Suhana Meharchand was born in Durban, South Africa, and raised in Toronto, Canada.
